Top 5 Adrenaline-Fueled Activities in Southeast Asia

Top 5 Adrenaline-Fueled Activities in Southeast Asia

Visiting Southeast Asia is a thrill in itself, but if you’re looking for that extra adrenaline kick, here are the top 5 activities for your next adventure.

Renting a Scooter in Southeast Asia

Renting a scooter in Southeast Asia is a thrilling and affordable way to explore the region’s vibrant cities and stunning landscapes.

Few times have I felt more alive than when I’ve had the wind blowing through my hair on the way to some ancient temple. My first ride was going up to see the Big Buddha in Phuket and I felt an exhilarating sense of freedom.

Whether you’re in the bustling streets of Bangkok or the winding roads of Bali, scooters offer unparalleled access to local life, so your adventure is bound to be more authentic too. There’s so much joy to be found on the open road.

However, some of the most common sights around Southeast Asia are backpackers covered in bandages due to a scooter accident so remember to ride responsibly. Always wear a helmet and follow local traffic laws. With a little caution and a sense of adventure, scooter rental can really be an awesome experience.

Conquering the Chocolate Hills

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to ride an ATV through the Chocolate Hills of Bohol, in the Philippines and it was loads of fun! With stunning panoramic views, it’s definitely a unique perspective on such a popular site. You ride about an hour through some winding trails and they even take you to a field where you can go over some pretty big bumps! You can feel the thrill of conquering the challenging terrain with endless rows of chocolate-colored hills stretching out before you. It’s definitely an experience I won’t soon forget.

White-Water Rafting the Padas River

Padas River in Malaysian Borneo

I’m currently in Malaysian Borneo and I’ve been hearing a lot about the white-water rafting experience in the Padas River. Apparently the best time is April through October. I was alarmed when I saw that it’s a Class III-IV rapids, but I’ve just now learned that Class III is the beginner level, so it should be fine. Phew! Navigating through the lush rainforest sounds so beautiful and the rapids are sure to provide that adrenaline boost, specially for a beginner such as myself. If you’re a full-on adventure seeker like me, it could be an unforgettable experience, right? So let’s grab a paddle and take on the Padas River!

Learning Self-Defense in Bang Tao

I’ll be honest: even though Thailand is definitely one of my favorite countries in the world, I consider Phuket to be one of the worst parts of it, since it’s extremely overpriced and lacking in authenticity. That’s not to say there aren’t some nice beaches but… it’s never my first choice for a vacation. That said, I was in the northern part of Phuket this summer to visit one of my best friends. He just moved there from Australia to teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to children. He took me on a tour of the gym he’s working for, which is called Bang Tao Muay Thai and I was extremely impressed by their infrastructure. It’s a huge space, the facilities are top-notch and it’s known to be the best gym in Bang Tao, an area that is absolutely littered with them. Whether you’re a seasoned martial artist or a complete beginner, you’re sure to find a gym that suits your skill level and goals. From intensive training camps to casual drop-in classes, there’s something for everyone. It’s definitely a unique opportunity to master BJJ or even Muay Thai – Thai kickboxing – while enjoying Thailand’s biggest island.
